Vincent Frank Pompilius, age 88, of Rochester Hills, died Sunday, July 11, 2021. Vincent was born on July 12, 1932 in Detroit. For 60 years, Vincent was the devoted husband of Shirley Pompilius whom he married on May 14, 1955. Shirley preceded him in death in 2015. He is the loving Dad of Sandy (Larry) Balone, Shelly Lalla, Sharon (Rob) Bowlby, and Paul (Michele) Pompilius. Dear Grandpa of Larry (Jessica) Balone, Stephen (Ashley) Balone, Jeff (Emma) Bowlby, Jamie (Ryan) Groh, Christopher (Nicole) Lalla, Chase Lalla, Adam Pompilius and Ryan Pompilius. Big Papa to Vincent, Michael and James Balone, Dominic and Bene Balone, Oliver, Wesley and Conrad Groh and Jaxon Lalla.
He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Dr. Jerry Polsinelli, D.O. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Vincent was preceded in death by: his parents, Vincent and Mary (Gabriel) Pompilius; a brother Louis, and wife Kate, Pompilius and a sister, Virginia Polsinelli. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had retired from Grand Trunk Western Railroad in 1990 as Vice President of Accounting. He was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, as well as the OPC where he served as a Meals-On-Wheels Volunteer. Vincent enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, 2675 John R. Road, Rochester Hills. Fr. Stanley Ulman, celebrant. He will lie in state at the church at 10 a.m. Interment at VanHoosen Jones Cemetery. The family will also receive friends Thursday, July 15, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive, Rochester. A scripture service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Donation Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
