a large cattle ranch. She was the last born of 11 children. A few years after her birth, the Great Depression came along and her parents lost nearly everything and had to move to a small home in the town of Limon, Colorado where Wanda cared for her elderly parents.
She excelled as a student, hoping to be an English teacher but WWII got in the way. She also excelled on the football field as a Colorado state champion drum majorette.
In the early 1940s, Wanda went east to find work in Detroit, like many others in her family. She got a secretarial job at General Motors but wanted to make more money so she could send money to her parents in Limon. So she went to Kelsey Hayes to work in their factory, where she inspected 50 calibre machine gun barrels for the war effort (WW2). And, yes, she made more money in the factory than she did as a secretary.
Later, Wanda's mother contracted breast cancer. Wanda went back and forth from Detroit to Colorado to help care for her mom.
Some years later, Wanda was on Boblo Island with her sister. Later that day, Wanda met her future husband at the roller rink on the island. His name was Julius DeLorme (Julius went by a nick name - Dan). Dan and Wanda had 5 children: Gary, Daniel, Joseph, Ronald and Richard. Unfortunately, Joseph only lived a few days after his birth.
In 1956, the DeLorme family moved to Rochester, Michigan from the Detroit area. Wanda insisted that her boys go to a Christian elementary school so that they would have a grounding in the Christian faith - one of many great decisions Wanda made.
Turns out that Wanda was a wonderful mother, cook, teacher and role model. All Wanda's boys realized that their mother was unique - a truly wonderful mother and human being.
Wanda was a wonderful Christian who loved the Lord. She did not drink, smoke, curse, or gamble. She was kind to everyone and simply did not understand people who were mean, underhanded, sneaky, rumor mongers, etc. It just was not in her nature to be mean or nasty to anyone.
As Wanda's boys got older, she finally had some time to do things she wanted. One activity she took up was golf and she LOVED playing golf with family members and friends.
Later on, Wanda enjoyed being with her adult children, their girl friends, wives and grandchildren.
On November 23, 2013, Wanda's husband, "Dan" DeLorme, passed away,
Wanda's health was not good in more recent years and, after a time, she was confined to a hospital bed in her home in Rochester. Gary and Rick took care of mom for many years and are largely responsible for mom having a good quality of life and for helping her to live so long. Unfortunately, on the morning of October 9, Wanda DeLorme passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior.
All of Wanda's children will miss her terribly. She was a wonderful human being. And all the boys think she was the greatest mom ever! Now, God has another angel with Him in Heaven.
Mom, we love you very much! Thank you for all you did for us for over 70 years.
Gary, Dan, Ron and Rick
