

Susan Marie Eckert was born on May 17, 1950 in Rochester, NY. She attended Spencerport High School, Houghton College, and University of Rochester. She majored in English Literature and Education. Sue was a member of All Saints Anglican Church in Rochester, where she served on vestry, was treasurer, and taught adult Sunday School.
Sue had a lifelong love of books and writing and worked in public relations for WXXI, Rochester Telephone, and as a contract writer for Xerox. Her first writing job after college was as a proofreader and later Brockport editor for the Genesee Valley. Newspaper. Sue co-owned and operated a PR firm in Webster in the1990's. She also wrote a newsletter on book collecting and self-help booklets in the 1980's, which she wrote under the pen name Rachel Josh. Sue facilitated the formation of the Houghton Bookshop and was first a volunteer, then the manager of the Bookshop from the late nineties through the present. Sue was a member of the Century Club and while a member worked on editing a cookbook the club published. She is a past president of
the Rochester chapter of Women in Communications, Inc.
Sue had a strong interest in collecting and selling antiques, especially china and glassware. She also was intensely interested in gemology and worked as the manager of the fine jewelry department at Kauffman's and in the fine jewelry department at JC Penney's. Sue extensively studied any topic that she was interested in and became expert in identifying and knowing all about antiques and fine jewelry.
Sue was active in many local political campaigns beginning in 1984 through the present and had a strong conviction about maintaining active involvement in order to better the lives of others. This was a common theme throughout her life: she made friends wherever she went and truly cared about them.
