Thor O. Olsen

Thor O. Olsen passed away at the age of 89, on December 18th, 2025. He was pre-deceased by his parents Leif and Anna [Vagle], as well as his Brother Leif Arne Olsen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Susan Olsen, his sisters Tove Vagle and Astrid Müllertz, his sister-in-law Gunvor [Thorkilsen] and his son Lars (Jacqueline).

Thor was born in Ganddal, near Stavanger, Norway. He served in the Norwegian Army Signal Corps and completed his Master’s degree in chemical engineering before moving to the United States. For the rest of his life, he resided in Rochester, New York, where he married his wife, Susan, in 1966. He worked at the University of Rochester, first as part of a research group and later as an educator. During this time, he was a key participant in the development of a dental remineralizing solution and a system for computer-based collection of experimental data for high-school chemistry classes.

He was fond of photography, computer technology, painting, and British television. Thor also enjoyed time with family and scenic trips through the Norwegian countryside.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Creation Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534.
