

In the early hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, with the lights of the city skyscrapers brightening the night sky, Dennis C. Grimes passed away peacefully in the Critical Care Unit of Allegheny General Hospital with his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce, and his devoted niece, Lisa M. Stacho, by his side. His heart and body could not withstand any more tests or procedures. With the advice of several doctors and specialists, the decision was made to keep him comfortable. We whispered in his ear it was alright to go. We will miss him forever. My dear Dennis, I had the time of my life with you. Born February 24, 1954, in Rochester, he was a weightlifter and loved NASCAR. He worked at J&L Steel in the seamless tube, for IBEW Local #5 and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce A. (Dengel) Grimes, whom he married on June 25, 1977 in the Old Economy flower garden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four nieces; Lisa M. (John) Stacho, Heather RaeAnna Butcher, Michelle M. Roberts and Nicholle M. (David) Lucas, three great nieces; Kellee Marie Hunt, Patricia RaeAnna Butcher, and Aspen Rae Roberts, and two sisters in law; Carol M. Palmer, and Diana M. Dengel.
Dennis was preceded in death by a sister in law, Patricia Rae Dengel, a brother in law, Michael Dengel III, and in laws, Michael Dengel Jr and Bernadine M. Dengel. He was also preceded in death by his loving dogs; Benji, Baby Benji, Sally and Abigail.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the cardiology team at AGH for their care, and a special thank you to Brooke, the CCU nurse who gave Dennis such compassionate care.
