

NEW SEWICKLEY
Denzil Ray Johnston, 80, of New Sewickley Township, passed on July 30, 2013. He was born May 8, 1933 in Alexander, WV, son of the late Acie and Genevieve (Simons) Johnston. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. Denzil retired from Wyckoff Steel with over 30 years of service in the Security Department. He had a variety of interests that included gardening, fishing and woodworking. Denzil also enjoyed cooking and was a very skilled mechanic. He was an avid fan of the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins.
Denzil was a very kind and giving man. He would share from the bounty of his vegetable garden and help a friend or neighbor with auto repairs, even if in the middle of the night. Many of his hand crafted pieces of furniture, toys or yard ornaments were given to members of his family who will cherish them as a fond remembrance of “Pap”. He was a member of Unionville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother: Goldie Johnston; his sister: Helen Jeffries; and nephew: Nelson Jeffries.
Denzil is survived by his loving wife of 58 years: Mary (Page) Johnston; two sons and daughters-in-law: Rick and Paula Johnston, Freedom; David and Kandy Johnston, Renfrew; one daughter: Doris Doughty, Warren, OH; six grandchildren: Lee Ann Freeman and her husband Jeremy; Jesse Johnston; David Johnston; Chelsea Coucelman; Scott Doughty and his wife Kris; Randy Doughty and his fiancé Katrina; three great grandchildren: Addison Freeman; Ben and Nick Doughty; sister and brother-in-law: Brenda and Frank Werling, Rochester; brother-in-law: Wilbert Jeffries, Buchannon, WV; and his niece Sherry Jeffries, Buchannon.
Friends will be received Friday, August 2, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, GPS 848 Sunflower Road). Military Honors will be presented Saturday, August 3rd at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a funeral service with Pastor Melvern McRoberts, Rochester Free Methodist Church, officiating.
