

Frederick William Fischer, 95, of Greene Township, Aliquippa, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016. He was born April 20, 1921 in South Strabane Township, Washington County, son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Walker) Fischer. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII as an amphibian engineer.
Fred retired from St. Joe Minerals after 32 years of service in Burner Department. In his leisure, he enjoyed woodworking and was a skilled craftsman. Fred was a member of the Wood Carver’s Club. He also hand carved a dulcimer and play the instrument in his Mountain Folk String Band.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years: Dorothy Luella (Furneaux) Fischer on April 22, 2016; his son: Lester James Fischer; five brothers: Tom, Harry, Roy, Charlie and Jim; two sisters: Ann and Viola.
Fred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Michael L. and Donna Fischer, Rochester; his daughter-in-law: Valerie Fischer, Loveland, OH; four grandchildren: Neil Fischer, North Carolina; Michelle Heintz, Foster City, CA; Dianna Fischer, Pensacola, FL; and Amanda Fischer, Loveland, OH; one great granddaughter: Addison Heintz, Foster City, CA; one brother and sister-in-law: John and Verdie Fischer, Lone Star, TX; his niece and her husband: Lisa and David McCutcheon, Joffrey, PA; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Friends will be received from noon until 2 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2016 at the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC. at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
