

John F. Buchanan, 80 of Beaver, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 16, 2010, while under the compassionate care of Good Samaritan Hospice and the staff of Heritage Valley Hospital, Beaver. John was born December 1, 1929 in Toledo, OH, son of the late John and Fideles (Kintz) Buchanan. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was retired from the Aliquippa Works of Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation. He was a man of faith called of God to serve in pastoral ministry for over 33 years. As the pastor of the New Wine Covenant, Pastor John enjoyed studying the Bible and fostering meaningful relationships with those he met and served. He was a faithful witness for Christ until being called home by the Lord. In his leisure, he was an avid outdoor sportsman enjoying football, fishing and hunting. He loved going to the family camp at Leeper, PA in Clarion County. The grandchildren affectionately called it “Camp Grandpap.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Carl and Bob Stairs; and two sisters: Mary Jane Carr and Lois Campbell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years: Ruth (Yeager) Buchanan; one son and daughter-in-law: Frederick and Bonnie Buchanan, Rochester; two daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Beth and R. Mark Evans, Beaver Falls; Rebecca and Paul “Sonny” Straile, New Brighton; eight grandchildren: Joshua, Danielle, Jared, Nathaniel, Jason, Rachael, Jennifer and Sara; five great grandchildren: Kaylyn, Alora, Eli, Marc and Karson; and two brothers: Charles Buchanan of Latrobe and Jim Buchanan of Florida.
Friends will be received Monday, July 19, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). His service will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ed Bailey, officiating. Private interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to the Family Bible Church of New Sewickley Township.
Military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit, Tuesday, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. On line condolences may be offered at www.saul-gabauer.com.
