Marie Nixon Stewart

Marie Stewart, 69, of New Sewickley Township, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 while under the compassionate care of the staff at Cranberry Place. She was born Myrtle Marie Stewart, on January 1, 1942, in Gaines, West Virginia, daughter of the late Edgar James and Madeline Virginia (Strader) Nixon. Affectionately known as Marie by family and friends, she was employed as a Nurse’s Aide at Friendship Ridge for many years. In her leisure, Marie enjoyed gardening and the craft of painting T-shirts, but her greatest love was her family.

Marie is survived by her life partner of 32 years: Glenn Landis; nine brothers and sisters, along with their spouses: Dottie Rambo and John Naugle, Baden; Lorraine Smith, Wichita, KS; Linda and John Majors, Daugherty Township; Russell Nixon and Debbie Pagani, Freedom; Ron Nixon, Darlington; Nancy and Kendall Watters, Greenville, PA; Tom Nixon, New Sewickley Township; Barbara and John Muschweck, Calcutta, OH; Kimberly and Rick Anderson, Las Vegas, NV; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; Glenn’s three daughters and their spouses: Yvonne and Ralph Salgado, Hudson, FL; Glenda Spanos, New Sewickley Township; Barbara and Robbie Porras, Miami, FL; eight grandchildren and one great grandson son, “Mimi’s Special Angel”, Noah.

Friends will be received Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester, PA (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the funeral home with Pastor Robert Porras, officiating. Private interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions directed to Cranberry Place, 5 St. Francis Way, Cranberry, PA 16066 or the Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
