

Ray O. Cowan, 75, of Economy Borough, passed on Saturday, July 9, 2011, while under the care of the staff at the Rochester Manor and Villa. Ray was born June 30, 1936 in New Brighton, PA, son of the late Dwight and Florence May (Wickline) Cowan. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Ray was a member of the Ambridge VFW and the Baden American Legion Post. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began working at the Aliquippa Works of J&L Steel; and then retired from L.T.V. Steel. Ray was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Ambridge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Maryann (Figel) Cowan in 2003; and two brothers: Bill and Lawrence Cowan.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Joanne Cowan, Clarksville, TN; his daughter and son-in-law: Anna and Kenneth Eyerly, Georgetown, PA; and his sister: Doris Janet Schultz of New Jersey.
Friends will be received Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). A Panachida Service will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
His funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in the Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home, Inc. with The Very Reverend Robert J. Perpelka, officiating. Interment will follow in the Orthodox Garden of Everlasting Life at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. Full Military Honors will be presented 10 a.m., Wednesday by the Veteran’s Honor Guard.
