Alice Kay Veroni

Alice Kay Veroni, 60, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Swedish American Hospital on November 30, 2025. Alice was born in Rockford to Frank and Leila Stokes on July 13, 1965. On April 21, 1994, Alice married the love of her life, Joseph Veroni.

Anyone who knew Alice knew how much she truly loved animals. Over the years, she helped rescue and rehabilitate many animals including ducks, possums, and even a baby bear. She had a special love for birds and had Maccaw birds that she absolutely adored. More recently her dog, Lilly, and cats, Poppies and Midnight, were her close companions. It would come to no surprise that she also loved being outdoors, whether she was fishing off the river or gardening flowers in her yard.

Alice was extremely loyal and would do anything for anyone no matter what. She loved her family and always looked forward to spending time with them. When the weather was nice, you could bet she was walking and playing “Pokémon Go” with her sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Jim, and her grandchildren. Alice was very proud of her grandchildren, and her favorite name to be called was “Nana”.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Joseph “Joe” Veroni; son, Blake Stokes; grandchildren, Blaker Jr., Aeila, Jaden, Paisley, Charlie, and Khalani; siblings: Leilah (Fritz) Cox, their children, Jessica (Tyler) Wetmore and Jesse (Chelsey) Cox (grandchildren, Quinnlyn and Maxwell); Virginia (Ramon) Perez (who passed in 2023), and their children, Angela (Kathy) Thibedeau, Thomas Reynolds (who passed away in 2021) and Lacey (Jordan) Patterson (grandchildren: Nastashia Thibedeau, James Thibedeau, Sebastian Thibedeau, Rosalie Patterson, Emelia Patterson, and Cooper Patterson); Sheila (Jim) Hoffman, their children Jimmy Mercer (who passed away in 2013), and Melissa (Brandon Barr) Mercer (grandchildren, Manuel, Declan, Scarlett Kay, and Antonio), Johnny (Jessica) Northrup, their children, Christina Northrup and Amanda Northrup; Frankie Northrup and his children, Jennifer Ackerson, Justin Ackerson, and Jessica Ackerson (grandchildren, Braxton, Weston, Kyrie, Kyleigh, Cameron, Kara, Liam, Bailey and Jordan); Michael (Courtney) Stokes, and their children, Brianna (3 grandchildren), Sloann, and Presley.

A final viewing prior to cremation rites will take place Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
