It's been a month since mom has passed.  I have thought long about how too express myself when this day came.  Mom lived a very hard life lets be honest.  Marriages that didn't work for whatever reason and the lost of 2 sons.  This alone would take there toll on any person.  Mom did the best she knew how.  I think mom was always looking for just 1 thing, that was to simply be loved.  She found that in her own way with friends and some family later in life.  Her family supported her the best that could and in a way they knew how.  What stood out with her she never acted or said she was someone she wasn't.  This I feel made her stand out from other people.  She was proud of Bill and me but also could ring our neck at times.  She showed me that if I wanted too I could make something out of myself.  We survived living in the "projects".  I think I made her proud while I was in the Marines .  She always worried about me in Law Enforcement so I just never really told her of the true things I did.
She is at peace now and we will all continue to live our own life's.  This closes another chapter for this family and if anything opened a small part with me and Bill.  Tell your love ones you care. Be true too yourself and don't act like someone you truly are not.  This put mom above most people and family. 
Love you mom, in the only way I knew how to show it. 

Due to the COVID pandemic, Memorial Services for Betty will be a later date.

Betty is survived by her sons: Mr./Mrs. William Lawing and Kevin Colton; sister Helen Tucker; brothers Jim and Bob Hawks; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Betty was preceded in death by her parents William and Lena; 2 sons: Tommy Lawing and Keith Colton; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
