Charles “Chuck” William Smith, 89, of Rockford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. Born October 9, 1927 in Beloit, WI. Son of Charles A. and Edna M. (Toelle) Smith. Served in the Merchant Marines before serving in the United States Navy. Married Mary L. Reese on June 11, 1966 in Rockford, IL. She predeceased him on October 16, 2014. Chuck was a very hard working man that enjoyed working on his rental properties, working on and collecting antique cars, playing the piano, listening to music and riding his motorcycle. He was a Winnebago County Board member and Precinct Committeeman in the 80’s, volunteered for the Rockford Share Program and member of the Studebaker Drivers Club. He loved his dog, Bella.
Survived by his daughters, Vicki (Mike Erthridge) Smith, Tammy (Darin) Tracey, Penny (David) Edwards; grandchildren, Todd (Desiree) Tracey, Aaron Tracey, Ashley Edwards; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; spouse; grandson, Edward Charles Molitor; sister, Shirley Marik. The family would like to thank Transitions Hospice and the Staff of Bickford Senior Living for all of their loving care of Chuck.
