Charles F. Wooding

Charles F. Wooding, age 92, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Charles was born on December 15, 1932 in Kimball, West Virginia to Lillian Elizabeth and Walter R. Wooding Sr. In 1946 he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Charles worked as a school bus driver for The Keith Bible Institute in Chattanooga, Tennessee before entering the Military in 1951. He served in the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1953. When Charles came back from the war he moved to Rockford, Illinois in 1954. Charles met the love of his life Bertha Davis in the 70's and married her on August 17, 1984. He worked as a bus driver before switching to Warner Lambert, eventually retiring from Amrock. Charles and Bertha were foster parents for the Department of Children Family Services for over 40 years. Charles loved serving others, he worked as a volunteer at the Rock River Valley Food Pantry in Rockford for 9 years. Charles enjoyed playing the piano for the Mission of Prayer Church, a good game of horseshoes, and an he was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Charles leaves to cherish many loving memories his six daughters, Lillian Wooding, Ann Holliman, Stephanie Davis, Vernell (Larry) Taylor, Malai (Ronnie Sr.) Harris, and Marlena (Tyrence) Williams; four sons, Armond Davis, Bobby Davis, Trent Williams-Wooding, and Keith Schneider; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; brother, Walter Wooding Jr.; a host of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and two sons, Earnest David Wilcher and Marvin Davis.

A visitation for Charles will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, 7000 West State Street, Rockford, IL 61102. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 8, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM, 7000 West State Street, Rockford, IL 61102. A graveside service will occur Friday, August 8, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:15 PM at Willwood Burial Park, 7000 W State St, Rockford, IL 61102.
