I was a flex at the Loves Park Post office and Dan was working there. He always was in a good mood and full of jokes and spreading good cheer! He will truly be missed! 

Condolenses to  family,  I was a classmate of Dan's.  Great person, I always got along good with him in school and then he ended up as our mailman in L.P. and later in downtown Rockford where I worked so I'd see him quite often.  Will be missed.  

Dan was a great person! He was fun to be around, usually telling jokes, riddles and showing magic tricks. Dan also listened. When I needed to talk, he listened. He kept his promises as well! I made a drawing giving it to him. Dan said he would not throw it away or misplace it. A little bit later, he brought the drawing out. I was happy he kept it. Dan was the best man for me to look up to. I needed Dan around a few more years, as I am only 17. Miss you Dan!

I will remember Dan as one of our friendly mail men at DCFS where I worked.  We also enjoyed sharing Fish Fries at  the 3L Club occasionally.  He was always a friendly soul.  We wish the peace of Christ to comfort Tammie and the rest of the family.  His health is restored and you will meet again.  Blessings to each of you.

To Tammie and Dan's Family my thoughts and prayers are with you in this trying time. May Dan rest in peace.

Uncle Dan or as I would like to call him “Dad” because he was the only father figure I had for the last 13 years since my real Dad was a deadbeat. He was there for me in a crucial time of my life in my teen years, he gave me so much time and love, teaching me and caring for me. Provided me with more wisdom and advice than almost anyone else had. He was there for me in one of my worst parts of life when my ex ruined my life and tore my family apart. He helped put my mind at ease when nobody else could and made me feel like a better person, helped mold me into a man in my teenage years. He spoiled me when I wasn’t even his own blood, he was a man that he didn’t have to be. He not only helped me with my life but gave his heart to my aunt Tammie and helped the rest of my family and especially my Grandmother whom passed away 9 years ago. Nothing will ever make me feel any better not getting to tell you I loved you or goodbye because the hospital would not let me see you...I am however happy you don’t have to suffer anymore, and if there is a heaven or an afterlife I hope you are in a much better place along with your family and my Grandma and everyone else. I love you “Dad” and will miss you more than anything....

I don't really know what to say so I'll share what i posted on Facebook for now: 
Ok y'all I'm about to speak some truths and uncover some secrets from things I've held back.   My father and i haven't seen eye to eye in a long time,   roughly the last 20 years.   See thats about the time life was pulling me in so many different directions.   Parents were getting a divorce custody battle changing schools getting out of juvey (long story) blah blah blah.    Anyways years down the road my dad got remarried and was in a better way and started coming around.   He retired as a letter carrier with almost 30 years of federal service (army 1st) I love my dad i always will difference of opinion time apart it was honestly better for us both.   I do have regrets about 1 last phone call.    1 last goodbye.  Who doesn't losing a parent.  But as children that's the burden we carry we lose grandparents and parents friends and loved ones.   This one hurts.  But its for the best.  Pnemonia is what they say got him and I'm sure he didn't go down without a fight.   Sorry I wasn't the perfect son you deserved but I'll carry a burden of not saying i love you one last time just know your memory is always with me and I'll find a way just like always.   I love you dad.

My favorite memory of my time with Dan was when we took the kids (his son Jeffrey, my son Jeremy and our son Justin along with my niece Marilyn) to Disney in Florida.  It was an adventure to remember.  He was a great guy to take excursions with.  We took a lot of "mini vacations" around the midwest on his 3 day weekends.  Those weekends were well deserved for the brutal weather that postal carriers have to endure.  

My condolences to Tammie.  And also to Jeffrey whom I have not seen in years.  Sending hugs your way!!
