Donald Eugene Borcherts, age 60, of Rockford, left his earthly body on June 20, 2025. Born on August 5, 1964 to Donald "Bud" and Pernie (Thornton) Borcherts. Don, or Donnie as some people called him, lived a life filled with love and laughter. Don met his wife, Wendy (Hicks), of 40 years, at Rock River Roller Skating Rink in 1979. They were married on July 28, 1984 in Rockford, Illinois. He was a loving provider for his family as a proud Union Carpenter for Local 792 for many years. He had a very independent and determined kind of nature. He loved being outside, bonfires, and listening to all kinds of music, but mostly country. He loved building things, great and small, with his own two hands and by the sweat of his brow. By Brooks and Dunn's definition, he was a "Hard Workin' Man." He loved Chevelles and watching NASCAR with his son. They were always talking about them Earnhardt's. He always wore cowboy boots, those were a must. He had a great sense of humor and would always make jokes, mostly to try and embarrass his wife. He enjoyed hanging out with family. He had battled cancer since 2015 and is now cancer-free. He will be deeply missed.
Don is survived by his wife; their son Cody (Keri) Borcherts; grandchildren, Sutton and Sawyer; his father, Donald "Bud"; his siblings, Rhonda Surratt, Curt Borcherts, Peggy (Brad) Long; many nieces, nephews, and special chosen family member, Dougie Taylor. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pernie, granddaughter, Emory, siblings, Michael and Penny and his grandparents.
Per Don's wishes, there will be no public services, only a private burial.
