

Doris Grace (Hoy) Carroll, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed on January 26, 2018, to join her beloved husband Odell Carroll Sr. in Heaven. Born May 4, 1932 in Brighton, TN, she was one of thirteen children to Ila Lucille and Elbert Russel Hoy. She met the love of her life, Odell, and married in 1948. Together they had 7 children- Wanda (Dennis) Beck, Judy Diane (Don) Gulbrantson, Ronald (Donna) Carroll, Odell Carroll Jr., Donna (Jerrell) Holloway, Robert Carroll and Theresa Carroll-Ives.
A Rockford, IL resident since 1956, Doris was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed watching game shows, soap operas and westerns and could play a mean game of cards, checkers and jacks. She was happiest hosting get-togethers for her large family, which eventually grew to include 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. Known for her southern cooking, she made the best homemade biscuits and gravy ever tasted.
Predeceased by her parents, husband, 8 siblings, granddaughter Katie, son-in-law Don, and daughter-in-law Donna. This strong, caring, adorable little Irish woman is survived by her children, numerous grandchildren, three sisters, and a brother, all of whom will miss her tremendously.
Service to celebrate Doris life will be 3:00 Thursday February 1, 2018 at Advantage Funeral Home 7000 West State St. in Rockford; visitation for Doris will be from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Willwood Cemetery.
