Our dear Lisa Renee Lewis, 56 of Rockford, IL, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of April 14, 2022. She was born April 16, 1965, the youngest of 9 and the only daughter to Richard M. and Gillie (Haynes) Lewis. Always being a giver and lover of people, Lisa served well as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 20 years at various locations including Fairhaven, Provena Cor Mariae Center and OSF. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Always full of life and laughter, Lisa enjoyed getting her hair and nails done, dancing, shopping online, being outdoors and going to Goodwill, but most of all, she adored being with her family.
Affectionately known as “Ma”, Lisa will always be loved, missed, and cherished by her family. She is survived by her children Steven (Tiaa) Lewis, Felicia (Faurice Hamilton) Lewis and Yolanda (James Holman) Lewis; grandchildren, Lashelle Lewis-Smith, Terry Williams and Kamari Lewis-Luckett; great-grandchildren, Leia Williams and Mia Williams; siblings, Charles (Dorothy) Hawthorne, David (Gwen) Hawthorne, Ralph (Leteena) Hawthorne, Allen Hawthorne, Kevin Hawthorne, Theresa (John) Holmes and Anthony Lewis; father of her children, Steven Gulley; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her significant other, Otis Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Hawthorne and special niece, Stacy Glover.
A special thank you to Faurice Hamilton, her nurse Vanessa Romine, and the medical staff at Swedish American Hospital and UW for their loving and compassionate care of Lisa.
A visitation for Lisa will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, 1001 Bishop Washington Ave, Rockford, IL 61102, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
