Lois VerKuilen

Lois M. VerKuilen, 78, of Rockford, passed away October 29, 2022. She was born on February 14, 1944 to Pauline and Raymond Pettenger. She grew up on a farm, and had a deep love for nature all her life. She married Edward J. VerKuilen on March 14, 1962. Together they shared 60 years in marriage and two children. She loved spending time outside admiring the birds, and she loved yellow roses. She was an organized and talented artist. She enjoyed up-cycling old furniture into fresh pieces of art. Lois frequented craft shows, and enjoyed sharing her talents with the community. She was also a talented cook. Her specialty was homemade tortellini from scratch. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and cookies, and she loved sharing her work with her family each Christmas. She was a deeply dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by many.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her loving husband; Edward J. VerKuilen, their children; Lorrie (Robert) Nimmo, Edward (Lena) VerKuilen Jr., grandchildren; Jennifer, Brett, Robin, EJ, her brother; Steve Pettenger, as well as numerous extended family members and friends whom she loved dearly.

She is predeceased by her parents; Raymond and Pauline Pettenger, siblings; Mae Allen, Beverly Brenner, Earl Pettenger, Shelby Pettenger and Merle Pettenger.

A funeral service for Lois will be Thursday, November 3, at 2pm at Advantage Funeral Home. Located at 7000 W. State St. Rockford IL. A visitation will take place at 1pm until the time of service.
