Maxine was born and raised on a farm near Pitman, Arkansas on May 17, 1928, daughter of Myrtle Ann Price. She was raised mostly be her grandparents, Jerry and Frances Price. She attended school through 10th grade, while helping out on the farm.
She was married September 8, 1945, to Elmer L. Hill, who had just returned from serving in the U. S. Army in Germany during WWII. They continued to live and work on the farm, where their two oldest children were born. In August 1950, Elmer, along with his brother Paul, went north and found work 500 miles away, in Rockford, Illinois. Within a few months, Maxine and the two children joined him there, and she began working at General Cement, running machines for 70 cents an hour. She worked for the company, which became GC Electronics, off and on for 34 years, eventually getting promoted into office positions. During that time, she had two more children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1999, her mother and step-father, John Ivey, half-brother Bobby Gene Ivey, and her grandparents.
She is survived by four children: Jerry (Juliann) Hill of Lakeview, AR, Sharon Kay Hill of Rockford, Kerry (Kathy) Hill of Madison, WI and Karla Welch of Raleigh, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Cherie Lynn (David) Fowler, Robert (Annie) Hill, Amanda (Brian) Hilson, Andrea Hill, Brianna (Bill) McKelvey and Bailey Welch; six-great-grandchildren: Gabriela and Sergio Solis, Tessa and Katie Hill, and Violette and Anders Hilson.
