Robert N. Schmidt

Robert N. Schmidt Sr., 88 of Rockford, passed away at 8:28 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 in his home surrounded by his family. Born August 6, 1925, in Indianapolis Indiana the son of Albert and Henrietta (Crombie) Schmidt. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force serving from 1943 to 1949. Married Doris Joan (Jo) Schmidt on May 6, 1946 in Springfield, Ohio. Employed by Commonwealth Edison and Purity Baking Company, retiring in 1987. Member of the Ellis Masonic Lodge 166, Gem and Mineral Society of Rockford; Beckman Mill Restoration and the Archeological Society of McHenry County. Loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Robert was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his children Kathleen Beyer; Karen Guler; Kirk (Linda) Schmidt; Robert N. (Karen) Schmidt Jr.; Karla (James) Drehoble; and Holly Patterson, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Doris and Brother Albert. The family would like to thank VNA Hospice and LSSI Intouch Services, with special thanks to Nikki and Pam for their care. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 4, 2014 in Advantage Funeral Home 7000 W. State Street Rockford, with visitation from 1 pm to 2 p.m. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family for a memorial to be established later.
