
Russell J.C. Overstreet, 81, formerly of Rockford, passed away on September 8, 2012 in Clinton, IA at Eagle Point Nursing Home. Born on October 23, 1930 in Walnut Ridge, AR, he was the son of the late Jesse and Gladys (Reed) Overstreet. He married Hazel Lucille Woods on July 4, 1960, the love of his life, who passed away on March 3, 2009.
A 1949 graduate of Walnut Ridge High School, Russell joined the United States Army and separated with an honorable discharge on May 31, 1962.
A long time resident of Rockford and member of the Church of Christ, he retired from Apsco/Berol USA in 1995, after almost 38 years of employment.
Russell was a man who took pride in his yard and home. He also loved fishing, baseball, and rearranging (aka piddling) in his garage.
His survivors include his daughter, Lisa (Darwin) McQuerter; his son, John (Sarah) Overstreet; grandchildren, Joseph Gilpin, Nick Gilpin, and Samuel Overstreet; brothers, Reed (Ruth) Overstreet, and Gary (Janet) Overstreet, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; his parents, Jesse and Gladys Overstreet; sisters, Marylin and Jo Ann Overstreet.
Private family graveside service on September 11 at Willwood Burial Park, 7000 W. State Street, Rockford. Arrangements are under the direction of Advantage Funeral Home.
