

Smokey was born in Rumford on May 15, 1939 a son of George and Aldine Viger.
He was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School Class of 1958.
Smokey joined the Navy, serving for 4 years; he then reenlisted in the Army and retired with the rank of E7 after 28 years of total service.
Smokey loved golfing and skiing.
He founded the little league team in Mexico and served as a coach for many years.
While serving in the Army, he coached for the Department of Defense Schools in Germany and Japan; and also was a referee for basketball, volleyball, football and softball.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Georgianna (Kusunoki) Viger of Colorado Springs, CO; his children, Michelle Kiger and husband Fred of Colorado Springs, CO and Kenny Viger and wife Lisa of Gray, ME; a brother, George Viger and wife Shirley of Rumford; four sisters, Gloria Barnett and companion Lindon of Rumford, Penny Gotto of Mexico, Nancy Norris of Rumford, and Geri Viger and companion Gerard Hamner of Rumford; two sister in laws, Ida Eggert of Winston, Oregon, and Marie Viger of Greensboro, VT; grandchildren, Caitlyn Kiger and companion Darius, Freddie Kiger Jr , Kayla Viger, and Jacob Viger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Andrew Norman Viger, and John “Billy” Viger; and a sister, Marie Kelly.
