

Born on February 13, 1939, in Salem, ME, he was the son of Ralph Smith & Olive Ranger. Clarence was a kind, stoic man who valued working with his hands as much as he valued time spent with his family. He attended various schools throughout the state during childhood and attended Stephens High School in Rumford before enlisting in the Air Force in Feb. 1956. He was honorably discharged that same year.
In 1959, he met and married the love of his life, Mary, and they had their first child in 1960. Around that time, he began working in the Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Rumford, where he worked until he retired in 1984.
In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, fishing, watching NASCAR, playing cribbage, exploring the state with his wife, home improvement projects, and maintaining his hand-built camp in Salem, just 200 yards from where he was born.
Aside from his parents, Clarence was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Bickford) Smith. His sons; Tim & Joey Smith. His siblings; Harry Smith, Larry Smith, Ruth (Smith) Parkman, and Charlie Smith. He also leaves behind his four grandchildren; Joshua Smith, Jamie Smith, Cody Smith, & Janelle (Smith) Hardy. His sister; Dorothy Abbott, His daughter-in-law; Carol Smith. His three great grandchildren; Rory, Rohan, & Elsie Hardy, his sister-in-law Brenda (Stevens) DiConzo, and many nieces and nephews
A celebration of life and burial services will be determined and announced at a later date.
