Norman Emery Young Jr.

Norman was born in Rumford on January 6, 1944, the son of Norman E. Young, Sr. and Lenna Stowe Young. He attended schools in Mexico and was currently employed as a Journeyman Mechanic in the machine shop at New Page Paper Co. Prior to that he worked at Glover Machine Shop in Roxbury for nineteen years. He loved his job and enjoyed working with machinery, especially his Excavator.

Norman was a Master Maine Guide and loved the great outdoors. He shared this love with his children and grandchildren by trips to Bemis and Dolly Mt camps and teaching them to pan for gold. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time at his camp on Mooselookmeguntic Lake, especially May fishing week, and fly fishing on the Little Kennebago. He loved hunting with his friends, playing cards, riding his snowmobile and following NASCAR. He raced stock cars in the 1960’s and 1970’s at Oxford Plains Speedway. He and Janet built their dream home on the Swift River on land inherited from Norman’s grandfather, Clarence “Howdy” Young. One of Norman and Janet’s most memorable trips was to Alaska 2004. Norman was a member of the Slippery Sliders Snowmobile Club. He was a valued citizen who was always quick to volunteer his time and machinery. He was known for his quiet disposition and his keen sense of humor. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Norman was married in Auburn on October 1, 2004 to his loving companion of 29 years, Janet Law. Other survivors include his son Norman E. Young, III and wife Michelle of Dixfield, daughter Melissa Ramey and husband James of Byron. Six grandchildren: Amanda Kane, Brandon Young, Craig Young, Ryan Plourde, Shayne Plourde, and Ben Plourde. Five great-grandchildren: Sean and Leah Kane, Gage and Cole Young, and Zachary Norman Michael Kane due in May. Sisters Irene Hutchinson, and Judy Boucher and husband Roger, sister-in-law Phyllis Young and her companion Kenny Waugh, all of Byron, Brother-in-law Robert Law and wife Jeannine of Rumford ,brother-in-law John Law and wife Becky of Turner, sister-in-law Mary Law of Mexico. He is also survived by many special friends, nieces, and nephews and his best friend, Gene Knox of Rumford. He will be missed his faithful dog Denali.

He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law John and Bet Law brother Donald S. Young, sister D. Jean Young, nephew James Scott Young, niece Liza Jean Furestenberger, and brother-in-law Bob Noyes.
