

1939 - 2022
Rumford - Thurl R. Duguay, age 82, of Rumford, passed away suddenly early Monday morning July 11th at his home. He was born in Mexico, Maine on September 24, 1939, one of nine children born to Desire and Evelyn (Strout) Duguay. He grew up in Mexico and was educated in local schools. Thurl met his future wife, the former Joan Coffey at her family's camp in Roxbury and eventually married her on July 30, 1966 and together they settled in the Rumford-Mexico community for a time. Joan predeceased him in February of 2020.
They moved to Chelsea, MA for several years where Thurl was employed in metal work and then returned to Rumford in 1980. Upon returning to Rumford, he first worked as a machinist at Bass Shoe and then worked many years in the mill until his retirement.
Thurl was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles and enjoyed spoiling his children and grandchildren, playing his guitar, riding his motorcycle, snowmobiling, camping, fishing and hunting. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and papa who will be dearly missed. He leaves behind his three children Denise Myles and partner Robert Fletcher of Limington, William Duguay of Rumford and Michelle Sawyer and husband Kevin of Chesterville; his six grandchildren Brianna Myles and her partner Brian Coon of Hyde Park, VT,
Damian Mullinax, Brian Duguay, Corey Duguay, Brayden Sawyer and Ariana Sawyer; three brothers Robert Duguay of Carthage, NC, Kenneth Duguay of Rumford and Raymond Duguay and wife Jackie of Mexico; and many nieces and nephews. Thurl was predeceased by his wife, two sisters and three brothers.
