

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary at Watson in St. Louis. Interment will be in the St. Paul Churchyard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Stanley was born Nov. 6, 1919 in Sioux City, and raised by his grandmother, Jenny Anderson. He attended Central High School in Sioux City.
He graduated from Morningside College in 1942 and from Eden Seminary in St. Louis in 1945. He received a master’s degree in history from Washington University in 1950.
Stanley married Eunice I. Wernecke on April 7, 1945 at Webster Evangelical Church, Webster Groves, Mo.
He began his ministry serving West Blue church in Milford, Neb., the United Church of Christ church in Goehner, Neb., then UCC churches in Weldon Spring and Cottleville, Mo. from 1948 to 1950 and at St. Paul’s Church in Oakville, Mo. until 1958. From 1958 to 1969, he served Peace Church in Rochester, Minn. He also had a telephone ministry there called the Minute Meditation. He was moderator for the UCC Minnesota Conference. He served St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in St. Louis, Mo. from 1969 until his retirement.
Stanley and Eunice made the Tower Grove East neighborhood in St. Louis their home for 26 years after retirement.
He loved crossword puzzles, Model T automobiles and Cracker Jacks. His favorite attire was a white shirt and a black tie.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice; three children, Caroline (Dirk) Peterson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Fred (Kathy) Anderson of St. Louis, and Mary Anderson of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Erik (Marcy) Peterson of Sioux City and Kristen (Bob) Gostomski of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Soren, Jack and Bo; and two sisters, June Zody of Montana and Shirley Peck of Sioux City.
