

Claude “Grapefruit” William Lemon, 78, of Hebron passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in Chatsworth, GA while visiting his son. Born in Salisbury he was the son of the late Walter Prettyman Lemon and Georgia Alice Parsons Lemon. A United States Army Veteran he served at Ft. Belvoir and in Greenland for two years and then worked as a truck driver for Marvel Package Company. He married his wife Betty Jean Smith Lemon on June 22, 1961 and lived almost all his life in the same house. He was a kind man who welcomed everyone to his home and would always feed them anytime they came. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle he loved fishing, boating, tinkering on things, and had the brightest blue eyes. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jean Smith Lemon; sons, William Victor Lemon and his wife Pansey of Mardela Springs, Claude Allen Lemon and his wife Barbara of Chatsworth, GA, James Edward Lemon and his wife Deborah of Salisbury, and George Franklin Lemon of Hebron; grandchildren, Joshua Lemon, Joseph Lemon, George William “G.W.” Lemon, Kelligh Lemon, Beverly Lemon, Dan Gassaway, and Darryl Gassaway; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Marion Ralph Lemon of Hebron and Walter Leroy Lemon of Hebron; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Wayne Holland will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore in Hurlock. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Claude to Athol Baptist Church, 8306 Baptist Church Rd, Mardela Springs, MD 21837.
