Pattie Bateman Townsend of Salisbury passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at Peregrine Senior Living formerly Atria in Salisbury at the age of 103. Born September 1, 1919 in Hertford, NC she was the daughter of the late George R. Bateman and Minnie Matthews Bateman of Elizabeth City, NC.
Pattie graduated from Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 as a Registered Nurse and Retired from the Wicomico County Health Department in 1980 as Community Health Nurse. She was the oldest living graduate from Peninsula General Hospital. She was a member of Rockawalkin Church and the United Methodist Women. Along with her husband Harlon, they enjoyed going camping, going on many cruises together and visited many European countries and the USSR.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Townsend Brittingham and Susan Townsend; grandson, Michael A. Davis (Kim); great-grandchildren; Morgan Anne Powell (Ian) and Molly Elizabeth Davis (Chase), great-great-granddaughter the light of her life, Isabella Shay Powell; stepdaughter, Ree Metcalf; nephew, David W. Bateman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Harlon Townsend; and two brothers, Wade Bateman and Grant Bateman; and sister, Pauline B. Winslow.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11am at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Pastor Steve Hands will officiate. Entombment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
