

Vergie M. Baker, 95, slipped peacefully into eternal rest with her caregiver for the last 7 ½ years, Rosalie Palmer by her side on Monday, January 26, 2015. Born in Worcester County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Luvenia Hall. During her youth she spent a lot of time with her grandparents, the late George and Ida Donoway. She was a member of Eden United Methodist Church. For a short time she worked as a bus aide for Wicomico County Special Needs Schools. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family, animals, gardening, and her family considered her the best cook in the world. She is survived by step daughter, Sandy Derickson and her husband Jim; step son, Bob Savage and his wife Anna; step grandchildren, Jimmie Derickson and Kris, Regina Brittingham and Frank, and Craig Savage and Ella; step great-grandchildren, Adam Derickson, Elizabeth Brittingham, Lane Brittingham, and Lyra Savage; a sister, Myrtle Truitt; three nephews, Thomas Truitt and Linda, Wayne Truitt and Anne, and Michael Truitt and Jill; a niece, Carol Lewis and Doug; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by Ralph Clayville, Zeke Savage, and Manford Baker. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2PM at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Paul H. Sherwood will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin.
