Gloria G Rivas

On March 3, 2026, our dear and beloved mother, Gloria Rivas, age 95, was called by our Lord to join him in the state of eternal life in heaven. She was born in San Antonio, TX and spent her entire life here.

She is survived by her daughter Rose Marie Cortez, and son Ernest Rivas and their respective spouses, Roger Cortez, and Fe Rivas, four grandchildren; Christina Glasgow (Spouse John), Angela Rivas, Andrea Martinez (Spouse Chris), and Jon Rivas (Spouse Jessica); seven great-grandchildren, Holly, Robert, Ashley, Lily, Santi, Abby, Benny, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, Elias; parents Rafael and Maria Garza; sisters Estella Celedon, Yolanda (Becka) Coronado; brothers Santitos Garza, Richard Garza, Roy Garza, and granddaughter Jennifer Cortez.

Gloria married the love of her life Elias or as she called him “Eli” in 1948 and shortly after started her family with him. She enjoyed her career in the food services department for the San Antonio Independent District for thirty years.

She was a loving and caring person with a big heart. Her work ethic was remarkable and she always managed to stay active. She loved growing and tending to her plants that she would start from cuttings. Mom definitely had a “green thumb”. She was also an extraordinary cook. She prepared many delicious meals for her family.

Mom took great pride in everything she did and was the happiest when she saw her family happy. There wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for them. She will truly be missed but will remain in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205, US, on March 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the Rosary at the same location on March 9, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Graveside Service will take place at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237, US, on March 10, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.
