

Henry Edward Salinas, 85, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away with family by his side on October 11, 2023. He was born in San Antonio, Texas to Eliseo and Katie Osterveen on May 27, 1938. He grew up in a loving home with six sisters and one brother. His siblings were an especially important part of his life. He loved and cherished them until he no longer could. He graduated from Harlandale High School, class of 1957, where he was a member of the high school golf team; His love for the game had already begun.
On March 3, 1962, he married his lifelong love, Olga R. Alanis, who became his wife and life partner for 61 years continuing until his passing. Together they enjoyed trips to the coast, casinos, and even lived in Kansas for a while.
He served as a Marine reservist from May 1956 – May 1962. Although life took him in another direction, he was always proud of the time he served his country as a United States Marine. Semper Fi.
Henry became a Journeyman Electrician during his reserve years and continued until his retirement in 2000 much of that time employed by Lone Star Brewery. However, he never really stopped working as there was always somebody who could use his assistance. Whether it was the church, a family member or neighbor, he never refused a call for help.
While he enjoyed his work, golf was his true love and second only to playing with his two cherished sons. He took pride in excelling and educating the love of the game to his sons, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Learning golf through his caddy adventures, where he often bragged about caddying for the great Micky Wright and the opportunity he had to play with Lee Trevino. Until his last days, he could still be found at the local driving range with his precious dog, Sierra.
He also liked trips to the Coast. Whether he caught a fish or not, it didn’t matter because the true joy was spending time with those he loved.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved listening to his eldest daughter play piano and enjoyed a healthy debate with the younger one. He cherished family gatherings, large or small. He wanted to be with his family to have assurance that everyone was okay. He never asked for anything more than the security and happiness of everyone he loved.
He had a strong faith and was devout Catholic who acknowledged Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He attended mass regularly, encouraging his children and family to follow their faith whatever it may be if prayer was part of their life.
He is survived by his cherished and loving wife, Olga; children Diana Salinas, Catherine (Frank) Joy, Henry (Debra) Salinas, Jr., Paul (Dawn) Salinas; grandchildren: James (Dari) Martinez, Danielle (Curt) Callaway, Jason (Taylor) Martinez, Jacob (Monica) Martinez, John Kincade, Jr., Samantha Salinas, Brendan Kincade, Kathryn & Christopher Joy; Nine great grandchildren Isiah, Aris, Vincent, Naomi, Amelia, William Henry, Jordyn, Alina and Baby Adam. Three sisters: Emma Jimenez, Patricia Sanchez, and Susie Salinas. He was preceded in death by his adored sisters, Edna Vera, Gloria Fonseca, Gladys Werland and his beloved brother, Ernest Salinas.
Visitation will be held on October 19, 2023, beginning at 5:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers , 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, Texas.
Rosary Service will be held on October 19, 2023, at 7:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers , 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral Mass will be held on October 20, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 2829 Ackerman Rd, Kirby, Texas.
Graveside Service will be held on October 20, 2023, at Meadowlawn Memorial Park, 5611 E Houston St, San Antonio, Texas.
