James Sidney Menke passed away Friday, October 12, 2012, at the age of 83 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eunice West Menke, and their children Jim Menke (Kay) of Falfurrias, Texas; Sandra Cheatham (Mark) of Portland, Texas; and Judy Clark (Ted) of Humble, Texas; and grandson Sidney Rowan Cheatham, as well as many other loving family and friends. Sid always had a smile, kind word, or a joke for everyone he met. He was born in Kingsville, Texas on October 7, 1929 to Monroe and Claudia Menke. He is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. He served his country by enlisting into the US Navy from 1948 until 1951 after graduating from Cuero High School. He spent his career in the oil and gas industry and retired from Mills Bennett after 30 years. A visitation at Roy Akers Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, from 8:00a to 12:00p with a service immediately following. A military burial will then take place at San Jose Mission cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
