

Martin Tapia, born August 16, 1931 in Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away peacefully surrounded with love on August 6, 2014 at the age of 82. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Yovanna O. Tapia, his parents Felis and Avelina Tapia, 7 brothers and 1sister. Martin is survived by his loving daughters Cinda Tapia and Sandra Tapia, brother Arthur Tapia and sister Dolores Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, sister Mary Tapia of Las Vegas, Nevada, sister Julia Mares of San Antonio, Hope Sierra whom he considered a third daughter, several nieces, nephews and many friends who loved him. Martin enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He entered Civil Service in 1956, retiring in 1986 with 35 years of combined AF and dedicated federal civil service as an aircraft mechanic foreman on the B-29, B-52 and C-5 aircrafts at Kelly AFB. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending Spurs games, Cowboys games as well as local high school games. He also enjoyed SA Rodeos and flying to Las Vegas multiple times a year to visit family and enjoying his favorite pastime, playing the slot machines. He will be remembered for his love of life, his wonderful sense of humor and wit. Martin will be greatly missed. Our deep and heartfelt appreciation to our cousin, dad’s nephew and namesake, Martin Johnson for his tender, loving care these last months. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home on Thursday, August 14 at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am funeral Mass with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
