Myrtala (Myrtle) Magda Galván Sanchez went to the Lord peacefully on 21 April 2015. She was born in Monterrey N. L., Mexico on July 22, 1926 to Ramiro and Zoila Galván. In 1950 she married Andrew Sanchez Jr. and they were married for 18 years. Myrtle will be remembered as a sweet, kind, devoted individual whose many years of dedication to the San Antonio Catholic Archdiocese included her roles as secretary at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, secretary to Bishop Stephen Levin, and principally as executive secretary to Archbishop Patrick Flores.
She was instrumental in the Archbishop Flores hostage situation that took place on June 27, 2000, and for her heroism received an award from the society of St. Vincent de Paul and Today’s Catholic Newspaper honoring her as a Guardian Angel. When the Archbishop retired in 2004, Myrtle retired as well. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gloria Yolanda Galván Peterson.
She is survived by her sons Andrew, Ramiro and his wife Juanita, her daughter Rebecca, two nieces, one nephew and his family. We wish to extend special thanks to Vitas Hospice for their loving care and attention. A visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday , April 29, 2015 a funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, with burial to follow at San Fernando #2 cemetery.
