Petra Lopez Valdez "Pete"

Petra Lopez Valdez; beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, and friend; entered eternal rest on January 14, 2015 at the age of 91. Petra, lovingly known as “Pete”, was born on September 11, 1923 to Romaldo and Maria Lopez in San Antonio, Texas. She now reunites with her parents; loving husband of 35 years, Benjamin O. Valdez; daughter in law, Linda R. Valdez; grandson, Jesus M. Martinez III; siblings: Virginia Solis, Jacinta Hernadez, Ascencion Gamez, Ricardo Lopez, Bruno Lopez, Eusebio Lopez, Manuel V. Lopez and Joe V. Lopez. She is survived by her children: Benjamin B. Valdez, Maria R. Tagle, Laura C. Martinez, Juan Jose Valdez, Richard A. Valdez ( Mary E.), Lucy A. Rodriguez (Manuel Jr.); 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Celedonio“ Charlie”Lopez; sister in laws, Pauline Ortega and Mary Valdez; numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends. “Pete” was a graduate of Fox Tech High School in 1941. In her earlier years she worked at East Kelly AFB. She married her loving husband in 1945; within her marriage she received her nurse’s aide certification. She worked numerous years as a nurses aid in labor and delivery at Santa Rosa Hospital. Petra and Benjamin operated Moore Street Grocery store and Sara’s Cocina until 1981. Within a 10 year span she volunteered at St. Stephens Church; McDonald’s, off Walters, as a greeter; and Santa Rosa Hospital. She loved gardening, planting, raising chickens and always had fresh eggs. Those dear to her will miss her outgoing personality and loving spirit. The family will be receiving guests at the funeral home on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. A procession will depart the funeral home on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. for a 10:00 A.M. Mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1114 Willow.
