Richard Moreno Varela passed away on January 23, 2022, at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his wife Christina T. Varela; parents, San Miguel and Aurora Varela; brother, San Miguel Varela, Jr. Richard is survived by his daughter and her husband, Carrie and Edgar Baez; son and his wife Steven and Angelica Varela; grandchildren, Adriana Baez, Karolyna Baez, Chloe Baez, Kaitlyn Varela, Kaylee Varela, and Matthias Varela; brother Ruben Varela. Mr. Varela proudly served as MSG in United States Air Force. He continued his service in the Air Forces Reserves and dedicated 32 years working in Civil Service. During his military career, he served in Operation Desert Shield/ Storm. Richard was the recipient of the Longevity Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He loved nothing more than to spend time with his grandchildren and wood working. His appreciation for life was evident through his faith in God, integrity & moral character displayed in all he did. He will be greatly missed by all that love him.
Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Roy Akers, 515 N. Main Ave. A Mass will be celebrated 2:00 pm Friday, February 11, 2022, at Holy Spirit, 8134 Blanco Rd. Inurnment to follow in San Fernando No.3 Cemetery.
