

Born in Brownsville, TX., David was a graduate of Homer Hanna High School in Brownsville. He attended Texas A&M University in Kingsville. A hard worker, David was a utility locator with Strake Locator Company. He enjoyed hunting and watching car shows and the Dallas Cowboys football team. An avid barbecue pitmaster, David's favorite food was flour tortillas (especially his wife's) and chicken pot pie. However, the most important thing in his life was his family.
David is survived by his wife, Maria Cantu; his children, Claudia (Ricardo) Ramirez, Bianca (William) Cantu Rektorik, and Daniel Cantu; and grandchildren, Maximo David Ramirez and Andrea Ramirez. He has two surviving brothers, Guadalupe Cantu and Ricardo Cantu and a sister, Ida Cantu Bowen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Hortencia Cantu, and his brother, Johnny Cantu.
A rosary followed by mass for will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 9:30 AM at St Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, TX. Following the funeral mass will be a Burial of Ashes at 1:00 PM at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 26170 State Highway 345, San Benito, Texas 78586.
