Marie “Honey” Carol Majercin-Hyde lived life her way, fully and faithfully. Marie’s adventurous spirit guided her from Hawaii to California and Florida, where her caring nature touched everyone she met. Marie’s love and compassion for others were not bound by denomination, faith or culture; she would always sit down and listen to what you had to say and engage you in thoughtful conversation. Wherever she went, all who have met her have expressed the love and kindness she brought to their lives.
Marie was the first child born to Michael and Mary Pacheco, on August 13, 1933, in Waimea Kauai, Hi. Marie attended Sacred Hearts Academy, later transferring to The University of Hawaii. Marie then pursued her grandfather Juan Benitez-Martin’s dream of going to California when she sailed from Honolulu to San Francisco on the USS Leilani. Marie then moved to San Diego, where she met her future husband, Lawrence R. Majercin, where they were wed in 1959, and raised their five children.
After surviving her husband Lawrence’s passing in 1971, Marie unwaveringly raised her five children ensuring they all attended Catholic School while working as a Child Development Aide, then as a Physical Therapist Assistant. After the last of her children graduated high school, Marie pursued her final dream of joining the Order of the Sisters of Clare in Clearwater, Florida; being the eldest novitiate of her order. Two years later, Marie’s dream had changed, and she returned home to San Diego, where she met her second husband-to-be, Thomas, M. Hyde and they were married in 1995, adding 10 step-children to her family. Marie’s faith remained focused on Christ, where she ultimately joined and became a Third Order of the Discalced Carmelites of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel and received the name of Sister Carmel of the Divine Trinity.
At 86 years young, Marie passed on, in her home on December 21, 2019, with her children surrounding her, and is now with her loved ones that have preceded her.
Marie is survived by her five children: Teresa Marie, Vanessa Yvonne, Lawrence Richard Jr. (Jean), Sabrina Michelle (Anthony) and Gregory Glenn; eight grandchildren (and their four spouses, whom Marie lovingly considered her grandchildren); and six great-grandchildren. Marie is also survived by her two brothers Michael and Ralph, and two sisters Charlotte and Portia. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Michael and Mary Pacheco, her two husbands Lawrence R. Majercin and Thomas M. Hyde, her grandson Andrew Keller, and her daughter-in-law Sheryl Majercin.
