Arthur Sylvester died at home peacefully in his sleep the evening of October 20, 2013. He was born in Norristown, PA to John and Carmel Sylvester. And was one of five siblings. Arthur was a WWII Army veteran. He had a 38 year career with the telephone company. He was a great cook and grill master. H was a loving father and devoted husband. After retirement, Arthur enjoyed traveling with his wife, DeLois, gardening, dancing, golfing, his men’s church group and spending time with family, particularly his six grandchildren and two great granddaughters. He started his career with Bell as a lineman and in 1968 received a promotion to management and moved to Atlanta, GA. Art loved living in Atlanta because of all the beautiful flowering bushes, trees and flowers. His home was surrounded with azaleas, dogwoods, and flowers. When it came to hobbies, he would say he had none, yet there were so many things he enjoyed doing. He loved to dance and was always the first one up dancing. Golfing and traveling throughout the USA was another passion. He was an accomplished upholsterer, enjoyed junking and refinishing furniture, collected golf clubs, coins and wine decanters. He looked forward to Sundays so he could dress up for church and participate in the men’s club that was so dear to his heart. Family was the most important thing in Arthur’s life. He provided a guiding hand to all his children and would do just about anything for his family. Being a grandparent was even better than parenting because he could spoil them. Family dinners were an event and the most favorite place in the house was the kitchen. Cooking and grilling were another passion. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Shawn Stegg; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Trina Sylvester; and stepdaughters, Rita Baker and Connie Judge. A funeral will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 25, 2013 at Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 Lavista Rd, Decatur, GA 30033. He will be placed in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2013 at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
