Barbara was born at NAS Pensacola, Florida on August 14, 1955, and raised in the metro Atlanta area.
Barbara graduated from Peachtree High School in Chamblee Georgia in 1973. On June 12, 1975, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Gary Dean Reser, and lived in the metro Atlanta area. Gary and Barbara enjoyed a wonderful marriage and partnership for 46 years. Barbara worked to support Gary’s Master’s Degree at Georgia Tech. Barbara worked a wide variety of jobs at Jim Scott Music, Giftique, Travelers Insurance, Southern Bell, Sandy Springs First Baptist Church, and Chick-fil-A. She attended Brewton Parker College majoring in music.
Barbara was a woman of strong faith and she cared deeply for her family and friends. She was a sweet, kind, friendly, and loving person. Barbara's greatest joy was her family and her faith in Jesus Christ. Her true passion and strongest focus was her children and her grandchildren who gave her much joy. She was a devoted daughter, sibling, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a fabulous cook and learned from the very best. She served as choir member, training union director, GA director and teacher, WMU chairwoman, and church cook at her church. She loved to share her witness and love of Jesus to her co-workers, throughout her life, and to those workers and patients she met in offices, hospitals, infusion centers during her 3 journeys through cancer from 2012 until her death. She was an inspiration to so many along her journey through life and struggles with cancer.
Barbara’s hobbies included traveling, cooking, and reading. She was an avid reader, read the entire bible each year, and read 3,000 words per minute. She could read most books in a day. Her favorite reading material was mystery novels, romance novels, and the newspaper. She was well-read, well-informed, and a great listener. She was a supreme cook and learned from the very best. Early in marriage she enjoyed camping but later preferred to “camp out” in hotels. Her favorite vacation locations were at the beach. She enjoyed quiet walks on the beach and in nature, reading, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed being a member of church choirs, working in the nursery, and teaching young people.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents: Robert Edward (Ed) Wellborn, Alma Marlene Burtz Wellborn, brother: William Robert (Bobby) Wellborn.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Gary, son: Bryan Nicholas Reser (Jessica), daughter: Amanda Elizabeth Reser Kennedy (Ryan), sisters: Annette Wellborn Duren, Cristy Wellborn Sellers, brothers: Raymond Edward Wellborn (Becky), Crutcher Kimbrough Evans Jr. (Cheryl), Bryan Randall (Randy) Wellborn (Amanda), grandchildren: Raelyn Liora Reser, Lincoln Howard Todd Kennedy, Grant Gary Donald Kennedy, cousins: she was loved by 18 nieces and nephews, and their children.
Barbara contracted breast cancer in June, 2012, multiple myeloma cancer in August, 2019, and glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cancer diagnosed in October, 2021. She was in remission of breast cancer and multiple myeloma cancer, had fought valiantly and recovered from stem cell transplant. Though she had regained her strength and resumed normal daily activities, the aggressive GBM was brutal and she never had a chance. Once diagnosed with GBM, the month she retired, she spent the remainder of her life with dignity in home hospice (Capstone) and the strong constant support of family and friends, especially Gary, Amanda (daughter), Cristy (sister), and Vicki (best friend).
