

Bernard (Barry) Joseph Lamanno passed away on June 10, 2015 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard (Bernie) and Rita Lamanno and Brothers Dennis and Buddy Lamanno. He is survived by his wife Nancy Hyland Lamanno; his son David (April) Lamanno and grandchildren Eva and Harrison of Spencer, North Carolina; and son Jeremy Lamanno of Athens, Georgia; step-children Allison Hastings (Will Laney) of Eugene, Oregon and children Katie and Carrine; and Brendan Hastings of Atlanta. Barry was born on June 29, 1948 in New York City and grew up in Hollywood, Florida. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in 1970 from Valdosta State in Valdosta, Georgia where he was a member of the TAU Kappa Epsilon fraternity. In 1994, Barry obtained his Juris Doctor from the Atlanta Law School. Barry spent his career in the insurance industry where he played numerous roles as an insurance executive. Barry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and had many lifelong friendships. Those who knew Barry described him as a loving, kind, and thoughtful man who loved life and laughter. Barry loved sports and was a big Georgia Tech fan. He also loved travel. He could be found on a Friday night at Ray’s on the River chatting with new friends and old. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at Northside Hospital and the Blood and Marrow Transplant Group of Georgia for their amazing care and support. A memorial service is being planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society is requested.
