

Frank S. Franco, 91, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away September 26, 2013. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Doris and is survived by his daughters Jill F. Miller (Bob) of Charleston, SC; Robin F. Thomason (Dan) of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren: Madison Miller, Wes Thomason (Megan), Leslie Thomason; great grandchild, Reese Thomason and many loving nieces and nephews. Frank was a member of the Greatest Generation, who served his country proudly and courageously in the Pacific Theatre as an Army Combat Engineer in World War II. He was a native of Warren, RI, but Atlanta was his true home. He was a graduate of Atlanta Law School, Charter member of the Atlanta Power Squadron, former Commodore of the Allatoona Yacht Club, Charter member of Northside Drive Baptist Church and former deacon of 2nd Ponce De Leon Baptist Church. He was instrumental in the opening of 2nd Ponce de Leon’s Family Life Center, establishing the original organization of volunteers who run the Center today. In 1994, he received the Lighthouse Award as Volunteer of the Century for his devotion and dedication to the Center. He took his work seriously as a deacon and former Sunday school teacher, ministering to those confined to their homes. Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 30 from 6-8 pm at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Highway. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. at Second Ponce De Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Rd. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services, with burial following at Beulahland Baptist Church, Yorkville, Georgia.
