I knew George when we were in the same hostel in Annamalai university.  He was a year junior to me.  I was doing my BDS and he was doing his MBBS.  We both travelled by the same compartment the day he came from Madras to Chidambaram with a huge steel trunk and I used to tease him a lot for that.  I heard about George passing away a few months back from another friend and am still deeply shocked.  George was a lovely human being and I pray that he is happy whereever he is now.

Thank you for being a wonderful friend/brother to my dad and spending quality time with me when I was young. I didn't get to spend much time with you towards the end of your time with us here, but I wish I had. You made everyone (and most importantly: Rebekah) so happy. Thank you for everything.

I can't believe a year has passed since you've left us. This time last year I received the worst news of my life. I love you so much and still am so proud of you. I am deeply saddened with George leaving us. We worked together seeing patients at the International Clinic, and I will never forget what an accommodating and helpful partner he was in delivering some of the best care to our patients. He was and excellent teacher, doctor, and friend. I hope we can strive to his example. Rest in peace my friend.

May I only mention the numerous times "smiles" and "laughter" were mentioned in several of these entries.  George, you may be gone but the light you lit remains brighter than ever.  You are an inspiration to us all.

Every single moment without you is excruciating. My mind floods with memories of you each night I try to sleep. Every morning seems more painful than the one before. I cannot do anything without thinking about you. I long for your phone calls, I long to see you drive up to our house with that smile on your face. I crave our walks in the park and your advice about life. I want all of it back. I miss you terribly. Nimmy was a really nice Christian brother who is definitely with the saints of God right now.
His genuine care and concern and desire to do good was so evident in almost all my meetings with him.
While he was showing the pictures of his Wayinad trip, he was telling us how wonderful it was and that we should make a trip there.  
Nice, pleasant memories of my association with him - not one instance can I even think of a negative thing he either spoke or did.

I met George during our fellowship training in Indianapolis. We grew very close during those 3 short years. I have great memories of our ski trip to Utah including his first attempt to get on the ski lift. Unfortunately the lift won that battle. He was a gentle soul with good heart. I worked with Dr. George Mathew at BRMC. He will be missed greatly. He was someone who even after he left our facility that I could always call for advice and he was considered a great friend and helpful advisor. I feel that the world has lost a great doctor and a good friend. So sorry for your loss to the family.

George has been a man of high standards and an icon of intellectual curiosity and creativity.   I greatly enjoyed working with George and was always fascinated by our many medical and non-medical conversations, inspired to learn more about a broad range of topics (such as the pivotal role of the parrotfish in maintaining coral reefs).   He approached everything he did thoughtfully and with positive energy. George was not satisfied with status quo and was forever striving for betterment, yet you never heard a mean word come from his mouth. George has made great contributions in inspiring learners to become skilled teachers with the “Distinctions in Teaching Program,” with innovations in clinical medicine and technology and in role modeling  human decency. We will miss him greatly but will never forget him.
