

He enlisted in the US Navy, received training as a medic and participated in the landing at Guadalcanal
in the Pacific. He was wounded, treated, returned to duty and later hurt in a training accident. He returned to TN. He went to the University of Tennessee, joined Kappa Sigma House and met the love of his life Aileen Hawkins and married her December 22, 1946. His valor was meant for more than the battlefield. His civilian career was marked by persistence, which enabled him to cope with the lifelong disability that combat injuries had imposed on him. He became the best in the tough field of salesmanship and after retirement started all over again with a successful career in real estate. He was the youngest president of the Sales and Executive Club in Atlanta. He was elected to the board of The Southern School of Pharmacy. He started a Christmas Tree lot for St. John Methodist Church and ran it for twenty years. Glen was a Mason and by nature and afflation an Optimist. He sent both of his children to college. He is survived by Aileen Smith his wife of sixty-four years; and children, Glen (Sharon) Smith, Jr. and Judy Carol Smith, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and his sister Doke Kryder. In life Glen distinguished himself for his industry and love of family, God, St. John’s Methodist Church and his fellow man. He lived a life of gratitude. He passed away on July 30, 2011. A funeral service will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 550 Mt. Paran Rd, Sandy Springs, GA 30327. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
