

Helen was born in Ty Ty, Georgia to Lila Mae and Walter Charles Bailey.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Worth Layton, her brother Monroe Murray Bailey and her son-in-law, Mike Summer. She is survived by her two daughters Linda Summer and Catherine Layton. Son Roy Layton, Jr. (Nita).
Grandchildren, Josh Summer (Teresa) and Great Grandchildren, Evangeline and Daniel. Matt Summer (Jill) and Great Grandchildren, Luke, Ian, Aiden and many nieces and nephews.
The family appreciated the many caregivers of Helen’s especially Nikki.
Helen was a long time member of First Baptist Church Atlanta. She volunteered for In Touch Ministries for over 30 years and was a member of the “Crusaders” Sunday school class. She also volunteered for many years with THE ATLANTA PASSION PLAY and she absolutely loved the opportunity. She read her Bible daily, loved to pray and professed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
After graduation from Tift County High School, Helen began working at a local movie theatre, later pursuing a career at Southern Bell.
Helen married Roy Layton from Atlanta in Tifton while he was in flight training for WWII. Later the family enjoyed the many benefits of Captain Layton’s career with Delta Airlines. She was a member of Delta Golden Wings and enjoyed their many trips as well as the Christmas party hosted by Delta. In fact, Helen rallied to attend the last Christmas Party. Also, she was a charter member of the WWII Museum in New Orleans and contributed to many charities and organizations including The Atlanta Passion Play.
She loved her family and was involved with their many activities, sports, education and all interests of her children. In her younger years, she enjoyed cutting the yard with her “Kubota” tractor and gardening at the family home. Helen had exquisite appreciation for fashion, the décor of her home and always set a beautiful family table. She was an elegant, lovely lady and will be sadly missed by many.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5th at 1:00pm at Sandy Springs Chapel, located at 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, 30328 and will be officiated by Dr. Scott Downing of First Baptist Church Atlanta. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Atlanta, 4400 North Peachtree Road, Atlanta, 30338.
