He was born July 25, 1929 in Atlanta. Ted's adventurous spirit, outgoing personality and strong work ethic carried him through childhood chores on the family dairy farm, delivering groceries, a copy boy for the Atlanta Journal, caddying at Chastain Park Golf Course (for tips, sometimes a dime a round) to graduating from North Fulton High School in Buckhead. From there he joined the Army at age 17 and served in the 82nd Airborne division. Afterwards his skills grew as he worked on the Ford assembly line, the body shop of Cheely Motor Company and then onto the career of claims adjuster. His prior work experiences set him up for his life-long profession as an insurance agent owning a successful agency for decades.
Ted was a man of strong faith, a Methodist, a long-time member of the Masonic Forest Park Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason and past master, and also a Shriner. Aside from enjoying dancing, fishing, tennis, golf, a good joke and innocent prank, Ted's love and dedication to his family was endless. Always supportive, his happiest times were when the family gathered, especially on beach and outdoor adventures where he would stop at every available historical marker, always interested in learning more about his surroundings.
Ted is predeceased by his parents, Hugh Tyre and Cora Pylant; sister, Joanne Norris; his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Pylant; and infant son, Kenneth Byron Pylant. He is survived by his wonderful, dedicated wife of 46 years, Brenda; daughters Gail (Roy) Williams of Jasper and Kay (Steve) Bobo of Stockbridge; and son Terry (Angie) of Newnan; along with three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also, sister Catherine Bell and many nieces and nephews.
Ted will be celebrated on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, Georgia with visitation at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. chapel service and 3:00 p.m. graveside service at Arlington Memorial Cemetery, Sandy Springs, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Children's Home in Macon in his honor (masonichomeofgeorgia.com).
