James J Bresnahan of Sandy Springs Ga died peacefully at home Friday April 11, 2014. James was born April 28, 1926 in Augusta Ga. He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and a WW II veteran. He served in the Navy in the Battle of Leyte Gulf on a LCI landing craft, then later in the Pacific theatre on a destroyer. James then served 20 years in the reserves on submarine duty. James will be buried at the Georgia National cemetery in Canton Ga on Wednesday April 16 at 12:30 with military honors.
After graduating Ga Tech, James worked at AT&T in Baltimore, Md where he met his wife Rosalie. After 10 years and three sons Jimmy, Keith, and Jack, James had the opportunity to transfer to Atlanta. He moved his family there in 1962 to be closer to his parents in Augusta. His fourth child, daughter Mary, was born shortly after. James retired from AT&T in 1986 and has lived happily in his same home for some 52 years. He coached sons Keith and Jack in Sandy Springs Little League baseball, and was the president on the association for one year after coaching. James was a good father, taking his children hiking in the north Ga Mountains, camping at Vogel State park, many vacations to Hilton Head, Nags Head, the Atlantic coast, Augusta to visit his parents, and back to Baltimore to visit his wife’s family.
James went to St. Jude’s Catholic Church and sent all of the children to St Jude’s elementary. There will be a Mass held at 10:00 Wednesday morning prior to the burial at the National Cemetery.
James outlived his parents Clara and James, his brother Joseph, and his sister Clara. He is survived by his wife Rosalie, children mentioned above, and grandchildren Michael and Travis.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions can be made to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund. The hospice took good care of James the last year of his life and the family greatly appreciated their services.
