Sallie Ann Bayer beautiful, loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend peacefully (well, she didn’t go out kicking and screaming) became an angel on the evening of June 16, 2022.
Sallie Ann would like you to know that her work here is complete. Basically, she’d had enough; she was over it, done, críochnaithe. She saw the light and knew a reunion with family and friends in heaven was imminent. This new life takes her to a wonderful place where she will be shopping for the latest style in red angel wings, playing canasta - making up the rules as she goes along and threatening you within an inch of your life if you challenge her, taking long walks with her grandson and the numerous dogs she and Tony adopted, playing the piano - better than she believed, crocheting, reading, and watching James Bond movies…no offense Sean, Pierce is her favorite. She’s where good music - think 1940’s big band, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Queen, laughter, and love are guaranteed.
Her family would like to acknowledge what a beautiful soul she is. While we will miss her, we consider ourselves blessed to be a part of her life, although we are surprised some of us made the cut. We wish her a safe journey and know she will watch over us. Sallie Ann will be busy creating a special place for her family to join her, as long as we make the cut.
Those who met her in heaven, who were over it and done here as well, are her parents Winfield T. and Josephine C. Hawkins, her in-law’s Anthony R. Bayer and Mary R. Bayer, and grandson Christian A.R. Nagel.
Those of us who are still kicking, breathing and well…just trying to survive, are her husband Anthony R. Bayer Jr., her son Christopher S. Bayer and wife Littie M. Bayer, her son Mark M. Bayer and wife Clara A. Bayer, her daughter Kelly A. Wolcott and husband Seth A. Wolcott, her daughter Nicole C. Bayer and fiancé Brian A. Covert, her grandchildren Christopher “Lee” Bayer and wife Camille L. Bayer, Bethany A. Bayer, Amber N. Behm and husband Richard A. Behm III, Samantha S. Bishop, Nicole Bayer, Cheryl Bayer, Sarah N. Nagel, Emma J. Giese, Blythe E. Caldwell, her great-grandchildren Ty R. Bayer, Noah M. Lucero, Kyle O. Gomez, Brynnley M. Bayer, Walter Hall, Mason Marshall, and Rowan Sumler.
The family will be holding a private memorial service for family and friends. Truthfully, we are going to throw her a party, drink lots of Merlot, and eat cheesecake. Because, “No one’s ever died from eating cheesecake, Tony.” – Sallie Ann

Sallie Ann’s Cheesecake Recipe, always a hit at gatherings
Unbaked graham cracker crust
8 oz. cream cheese
¾ cup sugar
3 eggs
½ tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. lemon juice
Topping
16 oz. sour cream
½ cup sugar
1 tsp. almond extract
Set oven at 300⁰ F. Cream well, cheese and sugar; then add eggs one at a time mixing well after each. Add vanilla and lemon juice. Pour into crust and bake at 300⁰ F for 45 min. or until set as custard. Cool for 30 min. while mixing the topping. Cream well the sour cream, sugar, and almond extract. Add topping and bake at 450⁰ F for 7 min. only. Cool and refrigerate.
You may add any canned pie topping you like before serving or you may put a pie filling on the bottom of the crust before adding the cream cheese mixture, but then you have to use a larger graham crust and bake it longer to set the mixture.
I have also used a chocolate crust and added some melted chocolate and swirled it into the batter.
