.William “Bill” Gaffney Tice passed away in Clearwater, Florida on Monday, March 27, 2017. He was 83. Bill was born on December 24, 1933 in Freeport, Ill. He grew up in Rockford, Ill with an older sister, Mary Kay Leber and a younger sister, Nancy Norton of Oak Park, Ill. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, the entire time based in the U.S. He was a 1955 graduate of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He maintained a lifelong admiration of the school, its history and impact on his life. He was passionate for all Fighting Irish sports, but like many others the football program was important to him. He returned many times to South Bend for home games, and made frequent trips to Southern California and Florida to watch his team play. He married Patricia Lampe on December 26, 1959 in Oak Park, Ill. They were married for 50 years. Pat preceded him in death on February 11, 2010. Bill started working for Mead Packaging in Chicago. He was transferred to Atlanta and moved his young family to a home in suburban Sandy Springs, they would live in the same home for more than 50 years. After a number of years with Mead he started his own firm and he became a manafacturers representative. He traveled around the southeastern part of the United States and eventually Europe to help sell bottle and filling equipment to soft drink and juice companies. This great opportunity to run his own business is where our father honed his skill of talking, telling stories, and talking yet some more. He talked on family vacations to Chicago and Florida and Pennsylvania. He talked our Mom into buying a houseboat on Lake Lanier. Then he spent a great deal of time talking about the boat. As his children got older and married he was blessed with three grandchildren. That gave him a lot more energy and time to tell everyone about his grandchildren. As the grandchildren got older they got to hear his stories and his children were happy that others in the family got to hear our Dad talk! He is survived by four children Daniel (Terri), Dave (Jennifer), Jane Margaret, and William (Christina) and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 31st from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Sandy Springs Chapel, located at 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA. The Funeral mass will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 1st at St. Jude Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Dr., Sandy Springs, GA with burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs.
